Location
St. George Island's beautiful East End.
St. George Island is located between Tallahassee and Panama City on the coast of the Panhandle. We are primarily a driving destination for vacationing families. Our island is located about 5 miles out in the Gulf and accessible by a bridge from the mainland of Eastpoint Florida. At about 25 miles long and about a mile wide at it's wildest point, the Island has been developed with strict guidelines to keep the Old Florida feel. There are no houses built over 3 stories tall on pilings so you will never see high rise condos here. The Island has 3 distinct sections.
1. The Gulf Beaches - When you arrive on the Island and drive Franklin Blvd to the Lighthouse, you are in the commercial district of the Gulf Beaches area. From 3rd Street East to 3rd Street West, you will find restaurants, retails stores, groceries, gas, real estate and vacation rental companies. Extending out to 11th Streets East and West, the homes in this area are built on lots that are a third of an acre. There are County beach easements at the end of every street and a bike path running the length of this area.
2. The St. George Plantation is a private community on the West end of the Island and is accessible only to owners of property in the community or rental guests staying in a home there. It has an award winning, established HOA and community amenities such as pools, tennis/pickleball courts and fitness center. At the very end of the Plantation is Bob Sikes Cut that separates the Island and Little St. George and is the passageway for boating vessels to get from Apalachicola Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. You'll find larger dunes and more dense vegetation on this end of the Island. The homes are built on half acre to one acre lots with minimal removal of vegetation due to strict architectural Controls.
3. East End - My Favorite Place sits on the East End of the Island. First Developed in 5 acre tracts, most most homes now sit on once acre lots. The East End is compiled of rolling dunes on the beach side with some vegetation and trees. The beaches can range from the golden sand down by the water line to a more white/fine sand as you get closer to the house . Our house features amazing views of the natural beauty of beachfront living. It is a close bike ride to the Dr. Julian G Bruce St. George Island State Park, which has been voted the number one beach in America in 2023 by Dr. Beach, Dr. Stephen Leatherman. Local bike rentals are available to enjoy the miles of bike path that can take you to the park to the East and towards shops, restaurants, and the St. George Island Lighthouse to the West.
